The top 10 places to visit when travelling solo

Jemima McDougall Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

We’re smack bang in the middle of our New Zealand winter, which can drive anyone to dream of their next summer escape. After trawling travel websites, blogs, and airline deals, we’re scheming how to get some well-deserved time off, stat.

But what if you’re partner in crime can’t? Well – we’re advocating indulging in a little self-love and heading off on your own adventure – solo.

If the idea of travelling solo seems a bit daunting, think  about this – being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want. The ultimate definition of you do you? We think so.

Check out our top 10 picks for where to escape to this winter, sans the baggage that comes from travelling with mates.

1. Emerald Lake Lodge, Canada
A private lodge hidden away in the Rockies is perfect for some alone time. Head here if you’re into going for long hikes, or heading to the spa for some much needed pampering.

2. The London Edition, England
This hotel has been converted from old Georgian townhouses, into one of the perfect hideaways for a solo trip. This boutique accommodation is rumored to have hosted some celebrity guests before, so keep your eyes peeled…

3. Uxua Casa Hotel and Spa, Brazil
Consider this the perfect place to go and work on your tan! Do some yoga on the beach, or book yourself in for endless amounts of spa treatments.

4. Sri Panwa Phuket Luxury Pool Villa Hotel, Thailand
If your wanting to splurge out on a private villa with an infinity pool and priceless views, this is the place for you. Enjoy the luxury that comes with being totally surrounded by rain forest, rendering your time here totally distraction-free.

5. Alvear Palace Hotel, Argentina
Having it’s own rooftop bar, and right by downtown Buenos Aires, (not to mention the genetically blessed Argentinians) you are likely to find yourself mingling the night away.

6. Palais Coburg Residenz, Austria
With this hotel boasting one of the best wine lists in Europe, this is totally worth the splurge. And check out how gram-worthy it is?!

7. Cavas Wine Lodge, Argentina
The name is self explanatory. Watch the sunset with a tall glass of wine and have a moment with your thoughts.

8. Interaplen-Hotel Tyrol, Austria
With a nearby ‘sauna village’, custom beauty packages and amazing views, you definitely will not mind being alone here.

9. Baccarat Hotel and Residences New York, America
With Baccarat crystals in every room and a luxury vintage car service, we are all dreaming of staying here!

10. L’Horizon Resort & Spa, America
Built in 1952, this resort is bringing back vintage Hollywood glamour and boasts guests such as Ronald Reagan, President Nixon and Marilyn Monroe. If this is good enough for them, it’s good enough for us!
