The 9 MBFWA runway trends you need to know about

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is renowned for being one of the biggest events on the fashion calendar, debuting all the latest and greatest trends. This year proved no different, showing us all at home what to expect from designers for the coming seasons. A recurring theme seems to be reviving our favourite fashion from the early 2000's... not that we're complaining! Check out the nine MBFWA trends you need to know for SS18.

The trend: Sequins
The thought of sequins may make some cringe, but not when they're so impeccably presented on the runway by the likes of Discount Universe and Emma Mulholland. These looks are definitely making us want to dig up our old sequinned tees from the early naughties.

The trend: Go strapless
Dare to bare your shoulders next season by going strap-free. This look has not been seen for a while, but at MBFWA many designers such as Manning Cartell and By Johnny featured strapless styles in their collections.

The trend: Off-the-shoulder
Just when you thought off-the-shoulder styles were losing steam... the popular trend was one of the most commonly seen on the MBFWA catwalks. Almost every designer had something off-the-shoulder featured in their collection, whether garments were slung off one shoulder nonchalantly, or completely off shoulders altogether, it seems this trend is here to stay.

The trend: V-neck
Not that the V-neck has never gone out of style per se, but this season we'll be seeing a whole lot more of it. Whether it be with silk camisole tops, or more fitted dresses, the V-neck trend is definitely one to look out for in SS18.

The trend: Ruffles
We've got to admit, we're pretty damn excited ruffles are going to be everywhere next summer. Whether delicately framing the edges of a strapless dress, or adorning a high-neck dress from top-to-toe, designers such as Macgraw and By Johnny featured them heavily in their collections this year.

The trend: 90's athleisure
Seeing as its now appropriate to go just about anywhere in your jogging pants, it's only fitting that this trend made an appearance on the runway. Designer We Are Handsome did just this with patterned crop tops and sheer-paneled bomber jackets.

The trend: Block colour
Forgot black, go monochrome in block colour this coming season. Top-to-toe hues have been huge at MBFWA, both on and off the catwalk (ahem, seen Nadia Bartel's of-the-moment burgundy ensemble, anyone?).

The trend: Lavender motifs
It seems one of our favourite scents also makes a striking statement when it comes to fashion! Although this may seem strange at first, designer Karla Spetic featured lavender on many of her garments this Fashion Week, making a bold statement.

The trend: White-on-white
You can't wrong with white. Crisp, classic, and always on trend, MBFWA designers clearly share the same sentiment as us! We love the knot detail on this T-shirt style midi dress by Christopher Esber.
