The high-end menswear label behind our rugby heroes

They’re totally used to getting down and dirty on the rugby field, locking into scrums, lifting their fellow team members in a line-out, and dodging their opponent to score tries. And considering we’re most familiar seeing them in top-to-toe in their rugby kit, it came as a bit of a surprise how well the boys in the Auckland Blue Super Rugby team scrubbed up on Monday night.

A crowd of VIP’s, rugby royalty and the fashion set came together to celebrate a special sponsorship that will see the boys scrub up a lot more often.

Premium menswear label, M.J. Bale, will be backing the Blues (literally) for the next three years, as the Australian clothier dresses each player in their high-quality attire.

Acting as the team’s official corporate wear partner of the Blues for the next three years, M.J Bale has recently opened the doors to their two new Auckland-based stores.

Founded by the son New South Wales woolgrower, Matt Jensen, the financier left his London-based job to return back to Aussie shores and start a clothing label. Jensen initially worked to establish Herringbone in Australia and then in 2009 started M.J. Bale, opening the first store in Queen Street Woollahra in Sydney.

Returning to his Aussie roots was a big deal for Jensen, who notes provenance as one of his business pillars for the reputable label. Every suit is crafted via a global network of woolgrowers, weavers and manufacturers, with a focus on delivering the most high-quality and authentic products available to market.

Of bringing M.J Bale to rugby-mad New Zealand, Jensen notes, ‘I’m delighted to be associated with such an iconic brand as the Blues and the sport of rugby.’

‘Our Kiwi cousins not only experience a similar summer climate to Australia, but also a complementary mind-set and approach to dressing well. I am sure the Blues will be the best dressed team in town and we look forward to our association.’

But it doesn’t stop there. Not only will the Blues be dressed by M.J Bale, but they’re also fronting the Blues Corporate Wear retail range, which comprises a full range of menswear extending to business shirts, ties, and cufflinks, available for purchase via the Blues online shop.
