Why Taylor Swift needs permission to change her decor

'Blank Space' singer Taylor Swift has just won her bid to designate her Beverly Hills mansion a historic landmark.

On April 4, the City of Beverly Hills Council gave the home a landmark status for its architecture and its original owner, who is an even bigger deal than Swift herself (would you believe it?).

The property is the 1934 estate of legendary Hollywood producer Samuel Goldwyn. Goldwyn co-founded Goldwyn pictures, which become Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (ever seen the MGM reel featuring the roaring lion - course you have!) in 1924. Located just behind the Beverly Hills Hotel, the property was one of the most grandiose of its day, featuring extensive gardens, tennis court, pool, and a home theatre.

Swift seems to have a thing for the properties of movie magnates. Also included in her $70 million property portfolio is a New York penthouse previously owned by Kiwi royalty, Peter Jackson.

Swift snagged the estate in 2015 for a no-big-deal USD$24 million. Now that it's a landmark, she can apply for tax relief on her extensive renovation/preservation project. Beverly Hills Mayor Lili Bosse spoke to Mansion Global, saying: "I think this is a true community gem and I'm so thrilled that it will be landmarked and preserved," she said, while thanking Swift and her team of architects for restoring the home.

As Swift will have to apply for any future renovations of the Samuel Goldwyn Estate through the Beverly Hills Historic Preservation Community, it is unlikely we will ever see the music star do anything drastic to the property.

However, we can still expect excitement as she is hiding out in Nashville recording her new album while her renovations take place, and sources have promised new material for us to get our groove on to by the end of the year!
