What every successful person does in the morning

If there’s one thing we know to be true, it’s that morning people are a myth. Who would decidedly spring from one’s delightfully plush bed knowing that there’s a whole 16-hours until one can envelop themselves back into their bed’s warm embrace one again? Not us, that’s for sure.

One such a person is Jessica Emily Quinn, Clinique ambassador, cancer survivor, amputee and athlete. Jess lost her leg at age nine after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and has since founded Limbitless, an inspirational blog that motivates others to be the best they can be, despite their circumstances.

An inspiration in her own right, Remix caught up with Jess to discover her secret to bouncing out of bed in the morning, why she never sets an alarm and the best place she’s ever woken up.

Between training sessions in the gym or writing for Limbitless, we’re guessing your busy days get off to a pretty early start. Walk us through your morning ritual?

It certainly is busy – just how I like it! Every day is different, as I often have different opportunities popping up which makes keeping to routines a bit difficult. I’m a morning person, so I generally get up around 7am to shower and head off to training, followed by a nutritious breakfast. If my schedule requires me to be somewhere early, I’ll train later in the day. No matter how many though, I’m all about looking after my wellness lately, so before I leave the house I fit in 10 minutes of meditation, and a glass of apple cider vinegar with water.

You’ve been an ambassador for Clinique Pep-Start for the past year now, how does using these products save you time in the morning?

Although I’m a ‘no-fuss’ type of girl, I still love to look after my skin. I wash my face with the Pep-Start Exfoliating Cleanser during my morning shower, then apply the Pep-Start HydroRush SPF20 Moisturiser which is great because it means I don’t have to add another layer of sunscreen to my face while I’m getting ready. Everything in the range has dual-purpose which saves me so much time! Then a little concealer and a light layer of foundation where needed and we’re away!

If you miss your alarm and are running super late, what’s the first thing you skip out on in your morning routine?

I’m so naughty for saying this but breakfast is the first thing to go! I’ll arrive to a meeting not having had brekkie but with a coffee in hand. It’s terrible! I need to change this habit though, as I find I never have the same amount of energy and concentration when I miss it. I’m starting to prep some chia pots the night before so I have no excuse to not eat!

What’s your secret for forcing yourself out of bed if you’re super tired?

I’m lucky I don’t have to – being on my own schedule means I can let myself rest a little longer if I need it, but that never happens. I’m one of those crazy people who gets excited about the gym so that generally helps me get out of bed if I’m struggling. Plus I look forward to the coffee I get to have after my morning training session!

Now tell us, do you ever hit snooze?

In all honesty, I don’t. Once my eyes are open I’m up and out of bed. But I also very rarely set an alarm. Unless I have a very early meeting, I just let my body clock wake me up.

Where’s the best place you’ve ever woken up?

Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. I was travelling with one of my best friends and we’d been staying in some pretty rough places so we decided to treat ourselves to a night at an amazing hotel. We woke up and opened the doors onto the porch that overlooked the Mediterranean Ocean, it was like a dream.

Describe your dream breakfast? Coffee or tea lover?

I’m such an eggs girl. Something with Eggs, greens & haloumi and I’m one happy girl. Coffee during the day, tea before bed.

What changes (if any) are you planning on making to your morning ritual to make getting up a lot easier/quicker?

To be honest, it couldn't get any easier. I’ve been using the Pep-Start range for a while now and my morning routine is so easy. I’ve noticed a huge difference when I run out of the range and haven't been organised enough to get more, my skin suffers for a few days. It’s like magic in a colourful little bottle!
