The best things to do with your three-day weekend

Puppies, sleep-ins, fresh kicks, strong coffees, and long weekends. These are a few of our favourite things. Needless to say, everyone here at Remix is pretty pumped that Auckland Anniversary Day is right around our corner, and that means a three-day weekend! Not sure how to spend your three days away from the office? We've got your covered.

Karaka Million Races
On Sunday, the Ellerslie Racecourse is hosting the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million raceday. It is one of New Zealand’s most opulent races ever, valuing at $1 million. If we are honest, though, we go to dress up, drink champagne, and to socialise. There are general admission tickets available on the lawn, and also exclusive tickets for the Cuvee beside the racecourse, which include a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival. Book us in, pronto!

Laneway
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival has become a much-anticipated event for most music-lovers. It brings in fresh, new acts along with some esteemed indie artists. This year, Tame Impala is headlining the show at Albert Park – and it may be one of their last shows ever! The mastermind of the band, Kevin Parker, has admitted that his music career feels like it has bookended. Other amazing acts include Nick Murphy, AURORA, Glass Animals, and our very own The Chills. Tickets are still available here

Weekend 8 at Silo Park
This all ages, free admission gig involves a number of exciting events. Enjoy the film Monty Python’s Life of Brian on Friday night while sampling the night market’s menu, be involved in The Great Carboot Sale of the Future, and listen to some of New Zealand’s best musicians. On Saturday night the one-of-a-kind Don McGlashan will be taking to the stage, as will SJD’s electro-pop act, and Nadia Reid’s soulful tunes. There will also be events for kids, including Mikey Havok’s reading of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox. Head to here for more.

Highlife Summer Sundays
For music, sunshine, and spectacular ocean views, head to the Regatta Bar and Eatery Summer Sundays session this anniversary weekend. There will be a full regatta menu and additional specials, plus all kinds of alcoholic beverages. The beautiful space at the Eatery has booths outside in the sunshine, or tables inside – just take your pick! Check it out

Fly My Pretties
Iconic Kiwi band Fly My Pretties is embarking on their first national tour since 2013. On Sunday, the 14-strong band will be playing at Cable Bay Vineyards – one of our favourite locations. The collaboration is touring their acclaimed album String Theory which was released in November. To soak up the sun and some elevating indie-pop tunes, book your ticket now!
