What will the Obama family do next?

They stole our hearts for eight years, changed the lives of many and made American history. We watched his children grow into young women, stared in awe during his wife's moving speeches, and watched him bring smiles to many people's faces. And now we watch as the Obama family begin to depart the White House, escape the public eye and resume life as a private American family.

At only 55 years old, Barack is one of the youngest ex-presidents meaning he has a long retirement ahead of him. Michelle is a total girl-boss which we definitely want to see more of in the future. Malia and Sasha are still growing, learning and developing as young women and we want to continue to support them along the way. But, as much as we want them to lead normal lives, we can't help but ask, what's next for the Obama fam?

Take a much-deserved vacation

holiday

First and foremost, Mr and Mrs Obama deserve to put their feet up. According to Refinery29, President Barack Obama says after he leaves office he's taking his wife on a 'really nice vacation because she deserves it. She's been putting up with me for quite some time.' Both Michelle and Barack have talked about spending time with their daughters and each other, all while taking some time relax. Palm Springs, perhaps?

Write more books

Book

Like other ex-presidents and FLOTUS, Michelle and Barack could both write a post-presidency memoir about their historical time in the White House. Barack could receive as much as $15 million for a book deal, Wall Street Journal reported. Not to mention that Barack is already a best-selling author with his two books Dreams From My Father and Audacity of Hope, published in 2004 and 2006. Throughout his presidency we were always captivated by what they both had to say, imagine a whole book of their thoughts and experiences? We wouldn't put it down!

Community Work

Community work

Before assuming the presidency, Obama and his family were involved in a handful of community projects and will do so again afterwards. Alongside the Obama Foundation, the duo are in the process of planning a presidential centre which aims to inspire future leaders. Based in Chicago's South Side, the centre is not only for the people but also created by the people. 'Send us your ideas, your hopes, your beliefs about what we can achieve together,' says the former first lady. 'Tell us about the young leaders and companies and organisations that inspire you. This will be your presidential centre just as much as it is ours.'

Golf

There's no denying that Mr Obama loves a good game of golf, and now he has plenty more time to hit the fairways. With more than 300 rounds of golf under his belt during his presidency, there's no doubt we'll catch him on the course in the coming months. But perhaps he will give President Trump's courses a miss!

Hang out with Joe Biden

President Obama and Vice President Biden watch a basketball game in July 2012 in Washington, D.C.

This truly is a bromance like no other. A bond this strong just can't be broken, despite their career split. They may not be joined at the hip anymore, but we can guarantee we'll see these two hanging out at more basketball games in the future. #friendshipgoals, we think so!

Move into their $7 million mansion

House

The Obama family are trading the White House for a $7 million dream mansion in the upscale DC neighbourhood, Kalorama. The Obama's are the first presidential family since Woodrow Wilson in 1921 to stay in Washington after his term. Since Sasha has a couple years of school left it only felt right that they stay in the area. The nine-bedroom estate is a historical looking abode for a history-making family.

Sasha and Malia will continue with their education

Sisters

Both sisters are on the path to a great education. As mentioned, Sasha will finish off her years at Sidwell Friends high school until she graduates. Her older sister, Malia is set to start studying at Harvard University in fall after taking a gap year from school. There are rumours floating around that Malia has landed a competitive internship with film producer Harvey Weinstein, which she plans to start in February.

Whatever the Obama family choose to do, we wish them all the best with this new chapter in their lives. *wipes tears*
