Woman Crush Wednesday: Pia Naera-Scott from PIA

At only 26, Pia Naera-Scott is a fashion force to be reckoned with. Carving her own path in the New Zealand fashion scene, Pia is the brains (and beauty) behind the fun, frilly and totally fabulous collection that is PIA boutique

The Auckland-born glamazon lives and breathes her self-titled collection, opting for swathes of sequins, a flurry of ruffles, and splashes of colour at every turn.

Her garments have adorned Bachelor New Zealand contestants, been styled to perfection by prominent social media influencers, and rocked on screen by celebrities both in New Zealand and abroad. With her sights set on delivering high-impact garments that won't cost the earth, Pia's feminine and acid-bright collections have garnered almost 10,000 passionate followers on Instagram, which continues to grow daily.

Back for her third year at New Zealand Fashion Week, Remix caught up with Pia to find out what we can expect at this year's runway show (hint: you should be bloody excited!).

What’s your earliest memory of being interested in fashion?
My earliest memory was from school, where I designed and made (with the help of my Nana) both of my ball dresses.  Now looking back, they were very PIA! One was bright orange with printed lining and the other an electric hot pink hue.

What do you want to achieve through fashion?
I would love to be the ‘go-to’ fashion label for girls in New Zealand, while having fun along the way.

Is there a better way of describing your collections other than bright and playful?
I would describe them as fun, well considered, bossdot.com and print-heavy (designed by myself!).

What does ‘style’ mean to you?
Style means having fun with layering, colours and accessories. I often wear a colourful AF dress with big, statement earrings and really natural makeup.

Who is the ‘PIA’ girl? What does she represent or embody?
The PIA girl is youthful, social media or internet savvy and style conscious. She loves colour and feminine pieces. She doesn’t mind standing out from the crowd, and is always drawn to wearing extra special garments. She appreciates fashion and is always searching for the latest trends.

When thinking about your new collection, where do you start? Do you keep journals or work from mood-boards?
I am constantly getting inspired, if I see something I love I’ll take a photo of it or write it down and add it to my design folder. When I am designing I’ll refer to this folder and start piecing it all together with my new prints.  It’s like a puzzle and I love it.  I often start by pinning all my ideas onto a board.

What helps you get in the zone when you’re designing?
Lots of coffee, music and I need to be in the right zone (stress free!),

How do you feel your designs have evolved over time?
My designs have always been bold, beautiful and feminine. They have slightly evolved over time with the use of new types of fabrics, prints and styles. I am constantly designing and feeling inspired so am always evolving my styles and staple PIA pieces.

What are three pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe?
A PIA Mali Wrap Dress, big colourful earrings and knee-high boots.

What would you like to accomplish in the next ten years?
I would love for PIA to be a huge success internationally! You could say I have my sights set on world domination... Seeing my designs on some big names in the fashion industry on a global scale would be a dream come true!
