Speaking to award-winning stylist Anthony Bayer, Helene Ravlich details how to recreate the hero looks from our spring editorial shoot.
With considerable time spent backstage at international fashion weeks and crafting editorial looks for high-profile titles, Tāmaki Makaurau-based stylist and Joico Guest Artist Anthony Bayer was the natural choice to create two distinct hair looks for Remix’s Spring issue.
The recent winner of 2026 AHIA NZ North/South Island Hairdresser of the Year is a longtime friend of Remix and its creative teams, and was more than ready to tackle the brief. ‘This shoot was all about giving hair a real spring-to-summer energy using Joico’s essential products for the season,’ he says—an approach that translated into glass hair, a wet look, and a softly textured updo.
For the former, Bayer drew inspiration from looks Pablo Kuemin created for Vetements at Paris Fashion Week. Starting with dampened hair, Bayer applied Joico JoiWhip Design Foam before combing and parting into place. Lightly twisted sections were formed through the mid-lengths and ends, followed by Joico Dream Blowout Glass to build gloss and shine. ‘The model’s hair was then lightly dried using a diffuser,’ he says, ‘before I added another layer of Dream Blowout Glass where needed to reinforce the look.’ Joico Humidity Blocker Plus finished with light hold and polish.
The second look leaned into self-care: a lived-in, softly textured updo inspired by Hailey Bieber’s nonchalant ease. ‘This look is all about going with your hair’s natural texture,’ says Bayer, ‘and if you’re adding a wave with a hot tool, always prep dry hair with Joico Heat Hero for added protection.’
A light spray of Joico Weekend Hair adds grip and texture, ‘working as both a dry shampoo and styling spray.’ Leaving front pieces loose, hair is gathered low at the nape, twisted into a loose bun, and clipped in place—ends left out for softness. ‘Use a finishing spray like Joico Humidity Blocker Plus or Joico JoiMist Medium Hold Finishing Spray to complete and elevate the look.’
