Here is how you can get your start in an industry with endless opportunities.

Hairdressing isn’t just about cutting layers or perfecting a blonde blend—it’s about instinct, artistry, and the kind of emotional intelligence no office job can teach. For Bronte Chevin and Shoshana Rose, two fresh Servilles Academy grads now working at Servilles City Works Depot, it’s also about building something real: a creative career with momentum. Beauty Editor Nina Molloy asked them how they got here—and how Servilles helped them get a head start.

What drew you to train at Servilles Academy?

Servilles Academy is renowned for its learning environment and supportive atmosphere where creativity is encouraged. It’s a place where you can grow and develop your passion.

How do you think the academy helped prepare you for real-life salon work?

The Academy helped me prepare for salon work by teaching me client interaction skills and providing hands-on training in different hair techniques, which helped me gain more confidence and knowledge in hairdressing.

What would you say to someone considering a career in hairdressing but unsure of where to begin?

Hairdressing is the perfect career for those who love socialising, being creative, and making people feel good about themselves. But proper training is essential for making it in the industry. So, enrolling at a training academy such as Servilles will give you the best start.

What first inspired you to pursue a career in hairdressing?

Like most girls, I enjoyed playing with hair—styling and braiding in particular. This passion grew through high school, where I attempted more complex hairstyles on friends. I never knew what I wanted to do as a career; I just knew I wanted something creative and fun that didn’t involve sitting at a desk. Hairdressing just seemed like the perfect fit.

How do you think the academy helped prepare you for real life?

It taught me everything I needed to know about hair and the industry, and from there, I could only grow and improve using real-world experience working in a salon. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and as a very shy person, that helped me both professionally and personally.

What would you say your signature style or aesthetic is?

At the moment, I’m really gravitating towards edgy haircuts and colours—something that will test your skills and is fun to play around with.

Why would you recommend Servilles Academy?

Servilles Academy was always a supportive place in terms of helping you grow and improving yourself. They were always encouraging and comforting, but pushed you out of your comfort zone. Servilles Academy has a vibrant, social environment where all the different areas—makeup, barbers, and hairdressers could come together to support and encourage each other to grow.
