How to get the perfect summer blowout with Joico

With the tagline ‘don’t let frizz dim your shine’, it’s safe to say that Dream Blowout Glass 72Hr Frizz Fighter is the hair product we’re all going to be reaching for this summer. But for exactly why—and how to best wield its considerable powers—it was time to call in an expert: in this case, award-winning hair stylist, educator and Joico Guest Artist, Andrew Cobeldick.

‘If there’s one product I’ve been waiting for, it’s a true ‘shortcut’ that gives you that lacquer-level shine without salon tools or professional arm strength,’ says the super stylist.

Designed to create the ultra-smooth, high-reflection finish you usually only get in a professional’s chair, but at home, Joico Dream Blowout Glass is coming just in time for a summer of festivals, parties and warm nights under stars—and it’s earned its place in our weekenders. Andrew shares his tips for when you’re ready to add this beauty to your next wash day, and how to stack the rest of your products to make that blowout last well into the morning after and beyond.

PREP

‘Prime with Joico Dream Blowout Glass 72Hr Frizz Fighter by working it through damp hair, roots to ends,’ says Andrew. This is your slip, your heat defence and your shine film in one—don’t be shy with it. Next, add support where needed. ‘If you have fine hair and want a little extra volume, add a golf-ball of Joico JoiWhip Firm Hold Design Foam

at the root for lift. Or, if your hair is more on the thick or frizz-prone side, add a pump of Joico Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Creme layered over mid-lengths and ends for the ultimate humidity control.’ Combining these two steps creates the salon-prepped fibre required for that hyper-smooth glass finish.

DRY TIME

Always rough-dry your hair to 75 per cent first—never start brushing it when it's dripping wet to avoid damage. Then, when it’s ready to bring in the round brush, be sure to keep the nozzle pointing down the hair shaft for cuticle alignment. ‘Key is creating tension first, heat second, then a cool shot last on every section to freeze the shine in,’ Andrew tells us.

SEAL AND PROTECT

Once hair is fully dry, smooth a half-pump of Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Glossing Oil over the surface only, not underneath. Lock it in with a light mist of Joico JoiMist Firm Protective Finishing Spray from half a metre away for humidity armour without dulling the gloss. ‘You should see the light bounce, that’s when you know you’ve hit glass,’ the stylist says. ‘The reason Dream Blowout Glass performs is that it behaves like a cuticle laminator. It creates an even, reflective surface before heat even hits the hair.’ Then every other Joico staple layered with intention turns it from ‘good blow dry’ into a mirror finish blowout that survives dancing, sweat, and any kind of weather.’

Joico Dream Blowout Glass is coming to New Zealand this Summer.
