Remix Publisher Tim Phin visits About Man to discover the facial designed with skin like his in mind
The days of male grooming being a basic haircut and shave are long behind us—and thank God for that. Clinical trends show that men, and I mean me personally, are increasingly seeking specialised skin health solutions that cater specifically to their own unique needs. And at About Face, the therapists champion this, with the introduction of About Man—a dedicated sanctuary where clinical expertise addresses the very specific needs of male skin. And to understand this a little further, I recently visited the clinic to experience its signature treatment—the Power of Three—a comprehensive ritual designed to revitalise and protect the complexion.
With men's skin often thicker than women's and subject to the daily irritation of shaving, it really calls for a targeted approach. For that reason, About Man shapes their experience around what we know actually works: deep cleansing, hydration, and tech designed for long-term skin health.
The treatment begins with a double cleanse using high-performance products like the Image Vital C and Ormedic Balancing Gel cleansers. This helps remove daily pollutants and prepares the skin for active ingredients. A critical component of this phase is the customised peel. In my session, we utilised an enzyme peel containing pumpkin, papaya, pineapple, and pomegranate enzymes. These act like tiny Pac-Men, nibbling away at dead skin cell buildup that often clogs pores and causes dullness. Unlike harsh chemical peels, this enzyme approach provides a deep exfoliation without excessive irritation, leaving the skin feeling incredibly smooth.
Following the peel, the treatment moves into the high-tech phase. An Image Hydrogel sheet mask, packed with hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamins, is applied to the face. To maximise the absorption of these ingredients, the therapist uses an ultrasonic machine. This device uses sound waves and vibrations to push the particles deeper into the epidermis. While a standard home application only affects the surface, this technology ensures the vitamins and moisture reach the layers where they can be most effective. This step is essential for plumping the skin and combating dehydration lines that often appear after prolonged sun exposure or travel.
The final stage involves the Celluma Pro LED light therapy. Using the red light setting at 633 nanometers, the treatment targets the fibroblasts responsible for collagen and elastin production. This helps to calm any residual redness from the peel while actively working on anti-aging at a cellular level. The session concludes with the application of specific eye gels and a tinted SPF 50. For men, a tinted SPF is a game-changer as it helps colour-correct the skin and provides a healthy, even glow without looking like makeup.
And while an immediate glow wasn’t really a priority for me, I will say it was a very nice touch. Especially because my skin felt firmer, looked visibly clearer, and the texture was noticeably refined. Beyond the immediate aesthetic boost, it's a really clever experience that provides a clear roadmap for maintenance, emphasising the importance of daily SPF and the introduction of active ingredients like Vitamin A for long-term collagen production. And the best part? A neck and shoulder massage while basking under the LED light. Just divine.
