Come for the Pork Belly, stay for the company at Huami

If Auckland's culinary landscape is anything to go by, Chinese food is, traditionally, best enjoyed following a big night out, on the couch, with all six seasons of Suit loaded on your Netflix.

That is, until now.

Transforming Chinese fare from it's humble roots to re-frame the cuisine in a contemporary light, Huami is Auckland's first ever top-notch Chinese restaurant. And with famed chef Jeff Tan at the helm in the kitchen, you can be damn sure Huami is serving up the finest Shanghai-inspired fare.

Taking up residence in the heart of Auckland's dining precinct, Federal Street, the eatery is amongst good company, with neigbours including The Fed, MASU, and Depot.

Huami, meaning 'nectar', opened to the public last Saturday, not before a grand unveiling the night before. The Remix team were among the VIPs in attendance, and we can attest to the restaurant's authentic design aesthetic, world class service, and better yet, the most delectable pork belly we've ever tasted.

We were welcomed by SKYCITY CEO Graeme Stephens, while Nic Watt introduced a symbolic fortune cookie ceremony. Raising our glasses with SKYCITY COO John Mortenson and Terry Lee, a representative from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New Zealand, guests performed in a toast! Following a Chinese proverb reading and a ribbon cut, it was official - Huami was open for business!
