Woman Crush Wednesday: Zendaya

Zendaya, born Zendaya Coleman with her roots firmly in California. Now, the 20-year-old actress and fashionista, is set to take over.

Showing that she really is the IT Girl right now, she’s nabbed a solo Vogue cover, is the lead actress in a just-released Marvel film and will star alongside Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman later this year. Zendaya has also served as a U.N Aids ambassador and went on a trip to South Africa to raise awareness for young people.

We can’t wait to see where her journey goes next! Zendaya is this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday…

1. She kicks ass in a superhero film

Zendaya may be known for her TV chops but landed her first feature film without even knowing what she was first auditioning for, telling Jimmy Fallon she was just told it was ‘a girl in a movie.’ Zendaya plays ‘Michelle’ in Spiderman: Homecoming alongside Tom Holland and she told MTV that her favourite part of filming was pre-shoot when she had an ‘awkward romantic picnic’ with five of her co-stars.

2. She landed her own Vogue cover

Zendaya won’t be a stranger to having her face in the magazines, but featuring solo on a Vogue cover during their 125th year is special. Vogue posted that she danced her way through nine decades of fashion and beauty on her shoot day. Zendaya previously wowed with Michael Kors assistance at the Met Gala and has featured in Dolce & Gabbana’s campaigns so it was only a matter of time before she landed a cover like this!

3. She’s got her own fashion line

Zendaya regularly shares her fashion with her 43.2 million Instagram fans and has released a clothing line ‘Daya by Zendaya’. The range includes slip dresses, shoes, jumpsuits, t-shirts, lounge sweats, jeans and denim jackets. Zendaya is regularly seen in her own line, with most pieces under $100 (US). The gold/rust slip dress she wore to a recent awards show is a fave!

4. She’s got her own Barbie

While Zendaya faced backlash for having dreadlocks on a red carpet event in 2015 by one TV presenter, her followers - including the likes of Barbie themselves thought she looked like the stunner she is and made a doll for her. She posted, “When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, thank you for allowing me to be apart of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty.”

5. She changed Disney

Zendaya is a household name, spending her teenage years dancing on Shake It Up, alongside Bella Thorne but when it came to her current show - KC Undercover, the then-sixteen-year-old had some brilliant requests for the Disney execs. Among other things, she became a producer, the show was originally titled another name which she changed and made sure that they featured a coloured family on the show.
