Achieving the designer look has never been so easy

The role of a designer is transcendent. Both in their professional and personal lives, every decision is iconic, forging the way for new trends, styles and fashion movements. It is easy to envisage the people behind big house fashion names as otherworldly. After all, it is their personal tastes that determine global trends…no pressure! Although New Zealand may be small, it’s fashion industry is far from that. We have reinvented the concept of boutique, making it more luxurious and chic than ever before.

At the apex of the modern fashion-wave is Sunglass Hut. Being host to the worlds most illustrious fashion brands, they have earned their reputation of being a one-stop-shop for innovate designer accessories. Their penchant for en vogue fashion has hit the shores of New Zealand, to the point where our very own designers want a slice of the action. Maggie Marilyn and Kellie from the coveted brand Moochi, sat down with Remix to discuss their holiday season, future plans and favourite pair of sunglasses that they carried this summer…

Maggie Marilyn has been a name on the lips of every local trendsetter. Her innovation and edgy designs will only grow in popularity this season. So we quizzed Maggie to find out the inspiration behind her original style and what she wore to stay on trend over summer…

Tell us about your summer holiday – what did you get up to over the break?

I spent Christmas and New Year with a full house of family and friends, up in my family home in Keri Keri – nothing like the ocean and sun with loved ones.

If you had to choose one pair of shades to rock from Sunglass Hut, which ones would you choose and why?

Definitely the Prada mirrored lens range. I love the quirky shape which offers a fun point of difference!

What are you most looking forward to in 2018?

I’m excited to see our brand continuing to grow especially with the growth we have had in the last year. A year ago I had a team of 3 and it’s grown to 8 - working with such a talented team has been a fulfilling journey growing together. I’m also really looking forward to heading to China for a fabric fair, it will be my first time going there!

From where do you source your primary inspiration for each collection?

It really changes from season to season, sometimes art, films and sometimes just life. It can be simple as how I am feeling and my mood at the time. A lot of the time I am designing for the women I wish to be and want to inspire.

Synonymous with quintessential New Zealand fashion is the Moochi brand, we are hard pushed to find anyone without an item of this brands clothing in their wardrobe. We sit down with the founder, Kellie Taylor, who dishes on her favourite sunglasses and recapping on her insta worthy summertime…

Tell us about your summer holiday – what did you get up to over the break?

The Taylor clan had a restful summer break on Waiheke. Earlier last year Chris and I bought a bach over there after many, many years of renting over the summer. We have lots of family who come and go on the island, so it’s a fun time with them, friends and a great place to get some peace and chill-out time. Although the island is famous for wineries, we’d rather get out on the water, find a quiet bay, and enjoy the sunset with a couple of cold beers or some bubbles and a picnic. Dreamy, uncomplicated goodness!

If you had to choose one pair of shades to rock from Sunglass Hut, which ones would you choose and why?

My pick of sunnies are the latest rimless Miu Miu’s. Sophisticated and elegant and a great match for any outfit!

What are you most looking forward to in 2018?

Clothes! The business of fashion is a full-on thing, but if I get to spend every day focusing on why I got into it in the first place, then I think I’m pretty lucky!

From where do you source your primary inspiration for each collection?

We look outwardly; globally through all the trends, and inwardly; what feels right to us, what we are enjoying for our own dressing and what our customers are loving - we then look to evolve each design.

If you had to pick one pair of Moochi shoes for this season what would they be and why?

I’m loving our shoe designs this season - from a sexy court heel to the knitted, tech-themed Prospect boot for those off-duty moments. However, the Triumph boot has got to be the first on the list as the shoe to reach for to give any outfit some kick.
