How to style the Vans Super Lowpro
As far as trends go, the retro sport revival is undoubtedly one of the most enduring. Why? For those who lived through the OG days, it’s a dose of happy nostalgia reimagined for now. For the newer generation, it’s about comfort, connection, and an appreciation for the silhouettes that defined some of fashion and lifestyle’s most pivotal decades.
Case in point: the Vans Super Lowpro — a brand-new silhouette inspired by the 1980s athletic shoe line, Vans Serio. For this release, the iconic skate and sneaker brand dug into its archives to rediscover the influential Vans Serio, famed for its low profile and signature Sidestripe. The reimagined version takes the retro running sneaker to its lowest midsole form yet, welcoming EVA foam for enhanced cushioning and flexibility, while heritage details like the T-toe shape and Vans Serio tongue logo make a momentous return. Fans will also love the diverse array of colours available, including flashes of green and red, or more grounding hues like black and off-white.
Remix Fashion Editor Martha put the Vans Super Lowpro through its paces, styling her three favourite shades in three different ways over the week.
Look One
First off the mark: Walnut. I’m a firm believer in (and advocate for) the styling sandwich theory — matching your shoes by echoing their colour or texture elsewhere in your outfit, like your top or accessories. Here, I mirrored the Walnut base of the Vans Super Lowpro with a brown blazer and picked up on the red accents of the sneaker through my knit underneath. I chose a cream pair of longline shorts to anchor the look and give a subtle nod to Vans’ skate legacy. A fluffy bag for a Martha-coded finish — and voilà, my first look is complete. Perfect for errands and the office alike.
Look Two
I was really drawn to the sleekness of the Black/Black variation of the Vans Super Lowpro — it felt like a smart-casual take on an everyday, sport-inspired sneaker. To elevate it further, I leaned into the sleek upper with a matching leather dress, while the addition of knee-high sheer socks nodded to its running roots. A Mary Poppins-sized bag in cobalt blue added a playful pop, and of course, sleek black shades completed my shopping OOTD.
Look Three
For my third and final Vans Super Lowpro look, I leaned into the retro sports revival, pairing the Heritage Blue colourway with pieces that channelled a heritage sport feel: leather shorts, a singlet layered under a sheer shirt, and a nylon handbag. While perhaps not track-ready, it’s weekend-perfect — delivering pops of colour, comfort, and my signature touch of personal style.
