In honour of International Women's Day, we sit down with Auckland's Cake Queen Jordan Rondel

In honour of International Women's Day, we thought it fitting to highlight one of New Zealand's leading #GirlBoss's, Jordan Rondel who tells her story of navigating life in the 21st Century as Auckland’s Cake Queen.

The future is female! So Remix in partnership with Converse, set out to ask some of the countries powerful ladies making waves in their own right how they feel navigating ‘girldom’ in the 21st century. The goal was to find showcase the progress of women as a collective force in today’s society. By championing the underdog and the ultimate antihero - the female - the Converse ‘Love The Progress’ collection works to celebrate women and redefine what GIRL really means.

Baker extraordinaire Jordan Rondel’s success story is hard not to love. A cake-baking habit that grew into an well-known Auckland business that will soon include a Los Angeles store, ‘The Caker’ has a reputation that can’t be beat. The woman behind the cakes is not only a testament to girl power as an incredible business woman but as an advocate for females and the progress of women.

“I feel really privileged to be a woman in the 21st century during this extraordinary time of change, where we can finally be celebrated as women.. Being a woman was never to me a detrimental thing. I was still going to go out there, do whatever the hell I wanted and work really hard.

As the owner of a business I have been privileged enough to hire a number of staff. We’re almost a 100% female-run business, we’ve got one guy and he’s amazing, but everyone else that works here is female. I feel really glad that I’ve been able to empower these women around me and allow them to be a part of this really fast-growing business.”
