New opening: Food Workshop K’Road

K’ Road has become home to a new high-end dining area called Food Workshop, which is sure to attract a lot of hungry bellies.

The 96-year-old building, previously a nightclub, fell into the hands of some business-minded owners and has contributed to the idea floating around the papers that K’ Road is set to be the ‘new Ponsonby Central.’

The plan is to hark back to the building’s original structure and create a 1970's, industrial-inspired space. A mix of eateries and artisan producers will be included in Food Workshop.

The top of our list for the new site is Moustache, the finest cookie connoisseur around. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a gooey chocolate chip cookie and a milkshake while watching the colourful bustle of K’ Road? The sleek white stools and black bar, too, seems a modern version of a 1950s milk bar.

Close behind them on our list is Popped, the quaint, family-run business which sells popcorn. The corn from Gisborne is popped by hand and then slowly caramelised in flavours ranging from salted caramel to BBQ. Popped is already experiencing rave reviews for their mouth-watering flavours.

Two other businesses joining the crew are El Sizzling Lomito, famous for their tender steak sandwiches, and the Lovebucket bar. Aptly named for its intimate setting and hand-crafted mixes, the Lovebucket’s must-try is the plum and black tea gin cocktail. El Sizzling’s work, too, is prepared by hand and with love by the head chef, Corradino Anselmi.

So head on over with your hungry belly (or thirst for gin) and check these amazing places out!
