Meadows Mushrooms Speed Plating event

Meadows Mushrooms are Mother Nature’s most delicious source of vitamin B. Just a handful of these mushrooms will give you energy and brainpower to last the day and will reduce fatigue and tiredness. Mushrooms are a versatile little veggie, you can do just about anything with them: sauté, roast, grill, puree, all to your liking and Meadows Mushrooms showed us exactly that last week when they held their ‘Speed Plating’ event in the Sapphire room at Ponsonby Central.

We started the evening off with some delicious canapés which included a creamy button mushroom soup with a bacon twist and a mushroom arancini. These dishes were both delicious and really set the standard high for the evening. The vibe was very rustic and earthy, we sat around wooden tables and it felt as if we could have been in a speed dating scenario.

Jay Reeve was the MC for the night and lightened things up a bit with a few great mushroom puns. Our first dish was brought out shortly after and was a brown button mushroom pie. With light, flakey pastry and a warming filling, this dish was one of our favourites from the evening, a great start to the night’s mushroom journey.

The dish I was looking forward to the most was the burger with a portobello mushroom, smoked havarti, pickled slaw and chipotle in a brioche bun and I was certainly not disappointed! It was a delightful little burger that was really satisfying. Our last dish for the evening was portobello mushroom and venison ragu with spinach and parmesan. It was a hearty dish perfect for a cold winter’s night with a comforting glass of red.

The Meadows Mushroom team held a fantastic evening full of tasty food, great company and good wine.
