Remix’s editor shares the one new wardrobe appliance that completely changed her life

In the Remix office, we’re in a near-constant swing of meetings, events, and photoshoots, all of which require our clothes to be clean, fresh, and ideally wrinkle-free. I’d argue that it’s a full-time job in itself. But in an ode to shed the snake and embrace the fire horse (look it up if you’re lost), we decided this year was the year of adding efficiencies to our everyday. And that started with trialling the newest innovation from LG; one that was all but assured to resolve our wardrobe woes.

LG’s TrueSteam Clothes Styler functions similarly to a traditional steam cabinet, which, for the uninitiated, is essentially a little wardrobe that slides easily into your laundry, closet, or elsewhere in the home. Much like a traditional hand-held steamer, it uses water to dewrinkle, refresh, and deodorise clothes without the manual labour. Sounds like an absolute coup. And that is the intention, we soon discovered—it’s an innovation designed to take the guesswork and effort out of refreshing garments. The best part? It genuinely gave me precious moments back in my day so I could focus on the work at hand.

Beyond handy for taking care of my own personal garments, the 5 Garment TrueSteam Styler has also pulled through for a myriad of moments: refreshing my well-worn blazer before a client meeting, steaming crinkled clothes deliveries before a shoot, refreshing a vintage leather jacket before an event, reviving my winter woollen coats when the season shifts, and using the sleek frame as a mirror before we dash out the door. If I had this at home? I’d hang everything I need for my weekly outfits in it on a Sunday night and enjoy crisp clothes every day of the week.

Inside the cabinet, there is space for five hanging garments and an additional EZ Fit PantsPress™ found in the door for one pair of trousers, perfect for achieving a crisp pleat for a sophisticated look. Some rejigging will also allow space for shoes, bags, knitwear, and other delicate items: the shoe-refreshing function was a particular godsend after a rather wet festival season. The cycles themselves (of which there are many) are effective and efficient—most sitting around that 30-minute mark, and my favourite feature is the very clever addition of the new built-in HandySteamer. With three levels of high-pressure steam, it’s ideal for really smoothing out any stubborn wrinkles from more precious fabrics.

Given that Remix needed an appliance that could take care of all things delicate, bespoke, and garments often loaned from brands and showrooms, LG’s gentle technology was essential. Dual TrueSteam relies on pure steam to reduce wrinkles (alongside exposures to allergens)—ideal for those delicate fabrics. The Inverter HeatPump drying system actually dries clothes without tumbling or direct heating. A Dynamic MovingHanger feature was designed to shake out fine dust from clothes (because you never know how long a garment has been sitting in a workroom). And the AutoFresh System circulates air inside the unit, dehumidifying the space surrounding, meaning all of the clothes bundled into our closet ideally stay fresh for eons to come.

And, as with anything in these modern times, the Styler can be controlled through an app—making it easy to have fresh clothes for work in the morning, discover specialised programmes for harder-working garments, be notified if clothes fall from their hanger (thanks to the Smart Detect Sensor feature)  and even monitor energy usage—something we should all try to be a little smarter about.

As such, in recent weeks, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is one of those appliances that might not have always seemed necessary at one point in life, but given how much it has changed mine, I couldn’t imagine a day without it.
