Did someone say breakfast in bed?

Any good day starts with a scrumptious breakfast, whether it's in your cozy bed or at your favourite cafe. This Father's day we have come up with two ways to treat your Dad with breakfast. Nothing says going out for breakfast more than eggs bene does, and Chuffed cafe is hands down one of the best out there. Hidden on high street, this cozy and intimate cafe will make any family gathering feel homely and your tastebuds tingle. But if going out doesn't take your fancy, but lounging in bed does, whipping up your dad a basic but divine eggs and bacon on toast will be sure to make him sit up. To elevate this dish, head down to Daily Bread and pick up a loaf of your liking, and it will make this breakfast the best he has ever had.

Nature and nurture

No matter the weather, a nice walk through the park or in nature alone is a great way to get the endorphins going for the day ahead. Surprise your dad with a family stroll through some of Auckland's most stunning places and bring your furry friends too. Piha is a beautiful landscape to visit; even though it is a bit of a drive, why not make it a day trip? Walking along the beach and taking in the surroundings will leave you feeling salty and fresh. If driving on Father's day is something you aren't fond of, there are plenty of amazing walks throughout the city that will do the trick. Walk through the trees and stomp over the fallen leaves by strolling through the gorgeous Cornwall park. No matter where you live, this park is hard to miss and is a landscape for all ages to enjoy. A classic walk that never fails to impress is Tamaki Drive, where you can start in the bustling city but end up on the beach side.

Sandwich heaven

After a busy morning out and walking through beautiful, it is only fair to reward the family with a sandwich and a coffee. All Dads are heroes, right? Well, it’s only fair that he has a sandwich from Hero Sandwich house in the city. Simply the best and most delectable sandwiches in Auckland that will leave his mouth-watering. There is something for everyone in the family on this menu, including truffle sourdough, fried chicken with dill cabbage, and Philly cheese steak. How could you not stop in and take a bite? However, we must not forget that dads love a homemade; if they don’t, something is seriously wrong. When making lunch for him, it is important that the cheese and bread are the stars of the show, so make sure you have the best of the best. Gouda cheese is quite the delight when paired with sourdough, you can't go wrong with this combo, and your dad would think so too.

To construct this delicious masterpiece, you will need a toastie machine or a pan with a lid, and easy recipe is below:

  • Turn on the toastie machine to heat up, or put a pan on your stove top to warm up
  • Cut bread into your desired thickness (the thicker, the better) and butter both sides.
  • Now it's time to slice your gouda cheese and put it on top of one side of the buttered bread, and then place another piece of sourdough on top to make a sandwich.
  • If you are feeling fancy, smother a light layer of crushed garlic on the bottom and top of the bread that will be on the pan or toastie machine.
  • Place the sandwich into the machine or on your pan and let it sizzle (if you are doing it on the pan, put the lid on top to trap in the heat and flip when you see a golden colour).
  • The way you know the cheese toastie delight is done depends on what you prefer, but we say make sure it is crispy and golden to ensure a yummy crunch.
  • Carefully transfer onto a plate and cut in half and enjoy.

Afternoon delight

After spending most of the day together, the afternoon should all be about dad and what takes his fancy. Whether you want to leave him to his own devices whilst he reads the paper or watches his favourite Netflix show in peace, just make sure you give him a cold glass of his favourite beer or a hot coffee. But if Dad is raring to go and wants to fulfil his day, take him to a driving range or mini golf and challenge him to some family rivalry. Takapuna Golf Driving Range and Treasure Island Adventure Golf at Auckland Airport are places where dad will be able to test his limits.

Night cap

To finish off the day, it is only fair to have a dinner to remember, no matter where Dad deserves his tastebuds to explode with happiness. Order your family's favourite takeaway in and enjoy it in the warmth of your own home. Or maybe Dad has a favourite meal that the family can make him whilst he takes a relaxing bath. But if going out is something on your mind, reserve a table at Elmo’s in Ponsonby. This place is bound to make any evening special and will have the family full to the brim with happiness and leave in a food coma.

You may think the day is finished, but how could you forget about the dessert? And luckily we have the right place for that…. You may be prepared and have a few tubs of Duck Island at home ready for dessert, or you want to walk after dinner to one of their locations; there is a flavour for every tastebud. And trust us, you will not be disappointed.
