The 47th NZ Polo Open is back - here’s everything you need to know

The scintillating tale of Summer not only brings sunshine and suntans, but the best events of the season. The NZ Polo Open is back for its 47th year on Sunday 18th February to take over the Clevedon countryside with the nation’s biggest and most competitive tournament of the year - a game steeped in 2500 years of history brings no shame in popping a cork in your best ‘fits as you watch players from polo hubs around the world compete for the cup. Who knows? You may even win a prize for ‘best dressed’ by our very own Editor-in-Chief, Amber Baker. Here’s everything you need to know about the 47th NZ Polo Open, and how Remix is involved.

Polo as a sport is known to be one of the most fabulous events of the year, no matter where you are in the world, and history shows that the fashion side of the sport has always attained the most stylish crowds. This year, Remix is here for theRemix Fashion at the Polo,’ with a chance to win ‘best-dressed’, and some incredible prizes. Judges including our very own Editor-in-Chief Amber Baker will carefully choose and crown the winners alongside Sally Richardson of Cable, and Robert Niwa of Crane Brothers.

Set to compete on the day alongside local talent are polo professionals from Argentina, England and Australia, bringing an international savoir fare to the day. Sip on Spain’s beloved Estrella Damm, or Provence’s luxury Rosé brand, Whispering Angel, as you watch the magic happen. Fieldside also has no shortage of good times, so if you’re all polo’d out or want to try something new, opt to watch the annual Car vs Horse race where Archibald & Shorter put their top car to the ultimate test of speed against one of the polo ponies. Or, if you’re fast on your feet yourself, the 100m dash awaits, allowing attendees to verse one of the ponies with the fastest competitor winning a prize (and bragging rights).

When it comes to the stars of the show (the ponies, of course), NZ Polo Open has banded together with ‘Love Racing NZ’ to bring a special animal welfare and rehoming collaboration. With this partnership, the tournament will see over 100 Thoroughbred horses competing on the field who have found their second careers in Polo.

“We are very much looking forward to our event next month. The work behind the scenes over the past twelve months is going to deliver a fantastic international polo experience. We have some exceptional polo teams with some great overseas players. Our partners for 2024 are involved with the top polo events throughout the world. Sunday 18th February could possibly be the best day of summer!” says Lucy Ainsley, Executive Director of NZ Polo Open.
