On our recent journey, we had the opportunity to experience Emirates' multi-tier cabin offerings, contrasting the newly rolled-out Premium Economy with their legendary Business Class, plus an unforgettable surprise in First Class. Here is what it is really like in the sky with one of the world's premier airlines.
For many New Zealand travelers looking to elevate their long-haul journey without jumping all the way to Business Class, Emirates' new Premium Economy is an absolute game-changer. Currently rolling out across key routes on the fleet, this cabin occupies a dedicated, intimate space near the front of the main deck.
We hit the jackpot on our outbound flight from Auckland, securing front-row bulkhead seats. The space is remarkably generous, featuring cream leather upholstery, adjustable headrests, and a leg rest that allows full extension. When you are facing a 17-hour stretch across the globe, that extra room to stretch out makes a world of difference.
Meals are served on fine chinaware with linen napkins, accompanied by curated wine pairings that elevate the dining experience high above standard economy. On our connected flights, high-speed Wi-Fi powered by Starlink on some flights, kept us seamlessly connected at 38,000 feet, whether catching up on editorial deadlines or staying in touch with home.
On the return leg back to Auckland, we stepped into Emirates' renowned Business Class cabin: a sanctuary designed to turn long-distance flying into pure relaxation.
Settling into your private pod with a lie-flat bed instantly changes your mindset. The 17 hours fly by when you have your own personal minibar, luxury amenity kits, and plenty of space to unwind.
Situated at the back of the upper deck, the iconic onboard lounge is a vibrant social hub that lets you step away from your seat, stretch your legs, and enjoy premium spirits, Champagne, and freshly prepared canapes. We even had a moment to step behind the bar with the wonderful cabin crew to shake up a few drinks, a true testament to the warm hospitality Emirates is famous for.
After a deep, restful sleep on the lie-flat bed, waking up as the sun peaks over the horizon is pure magic. Breakfast was served at our table while gazing out at the breathtaking sunrise painted across the sky, making it the ultimate way to conclude a long-haul journey.
Just when we thought the experience could not get any better, the exceptional cabin crew surprised us right before our final descent into Auckland. We were invited to step into the legendary First Class Private Suites to experience touchdown.
Sitting in First Class as the aircraft made its smooth landing into Auckland was the ultimate cherry on top, showcasing the sheer attention to detail, warmth, and spontaneity of the Emirates crew.
