Tim Phin goes trackside at the Australian Grand Prix

Touching down in Melbourne for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, Remix publisher Tim Phin shares his paddock-side experience with Tommy Hilfiger and the label's Cadillac collaboration.

I was lucky enough to fly the New Zealand flag for Remix Magazine during the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. Stepping onto the grounds for the final day, the energy was electric as Melbourne fully surrendered to the roar of the engines. This year was a milestone, marking the Cadillac Formula 1 Team's debut alongside the launch of an exclusive Tommy Hilfiger fanwear collection.

The Tommy Hilfiger star power was in full force at the Cadillac lounge. I caught up with Cody Simpson, Gabriella Brooks, Inka Williams, and Lakota Johnson, who effortlessly modelled a 'Premium Prep meets Pit Lane' aesthetic. The look blended Tommy's Americana heritage with a technical motorsport edge—think bold colour-blocking and relaxed silhouettes. Cody Simpson looked the part in a classic navy knit, joined by the legendary Terry Crews, who brought his signature vibe to the experience.

Representing the brand alongside the Fader DJs and a heavy-hitting KOL group, I spent the final day in the standout piece of the collection: the new Tommy Hilfiger Cadillac racing jacket.

Beyond the lifestyle, the track delivered high-stakes drama. It was a baptism of fire for Cadillac; while a fuel system issue forced Valtteri Bottas to retire on lap 16, Sergio' Checo' Perez showcased his veteran skill, carving through the field to secure the team's first-ever classified finish.

Local fans faced heartbreak when hometown favourite Oscar Piastri, who had qualified a strong 5th, crashed during his reconnaissance lap to the grid. Hitting the wall at Turn 4, the damage was too severe to start, a devastating blow for the record crowd.

Huge congratulations to the winners who dominated the podium. Mercedes celebrated a historic 1-2 finish with George Russell leading rookie teammate Kimi Antonelli, who secured a podium in his debut. Charles Leclerc took third for Ferrari, capping off a weekend defined by a thrilling surge of younger energy on the track.

The Tommy Hilfiger and Cadillac collaboration has brought a fresh perspective to the sport, merging iconic American heritage with the pinnacle of motorsport.
