Why a Body & Mind Reset is the key to your New Year Success...

This year, we’re ditching the willpower struggle. In partnership with Asanté Health, we are declaring January the month of the Mind & Body Reset. The secret to a successful start isn't just in your head - it is in your nervous system, your alignment, and your physical vitality.

Located in Auckland’s Uptown wellness oasis, Kenkō Studios, Asanté Health has been the city’s best-kept secret since 2012. Their philosophy is revolutionary in its simplicity: treat the body as the foundation of the mind. By integrating advanced therapies like Neuro Muscular Stimulation (NMS), Chiropractic care, Massage Therapy and Acupuncture, they help you build a body that can actually support your mental health goals, by providing a holistic path to recovery and improved well-being.

To put these thoughts into action, Remix spoke with six powerhouse women to discover how they utilise body care to cultivate mental resilience for the year ahead.

Patricia Souza

5x IBJJF World Masters Champion and Co-founder of DS Team Jiu-Jitsu

For a world-class athlete like Patricia, wellness is a biological requirement. "For me, holistic wellness means feeling connected, in both body and mind," she shares. She views movement as the ultimate regulator: "Through Jiu-Jitsu, I've learned how movement calms the nervous system, clears the mind, and builds resilience. When your body is steady, your mind follows".

Patricia identifies burnout as her biggest challenge, noting that her body acts as the "first alarm". "If sleep is short, breath is shallow, or my posture is collapsed, burnout hits harder—decision-making slows, patience shrinks, and everything feels heavier," she explains. By optimizing her muscle function, she builds the foundation needed to keep her mind sharp and her emotions steady.

Holly Wigg

Karate New Zealand Athlete and Senior World Champion Representative

Holly defines wellness as "feeling strong, confident, and balanced both physically and mentally". As an athlete facing the pressure of managing expectations, she has discovered that her mental state is inextricably linked to her physical alignment. "I’ve noticed my anxiety spiking whenever my back was out, or I wasn’t feeling 100%"

The Mental Reset: For Holly, a New Year reset starts with removing the "mental static" caused by physical discomfort. "When I am physically aligned and feeling healthy, my mind is so much clearer, and I can perform at my best," she says. She believes that "a strong, healthy body is the foundation for everything we do".

Tia Harris

Model Agent at 62 Management

Tia views wellness as a lifestyle of balance rather than a rigid set of rules. "Wellness is about balance. It's not just the kai you consume or the amount you meditate... it's about truly looking after yourself in all ways". For an "all-or-nothing person" prone to burnout, the New Year is about finding the middle ground through intuition.

When you "connect your mindset with your actions," you achieve a stage of intuitive wellness that prevents the mental exhaustion of over-focusing on societal ideals.

Jess Pearson

Sound Therapist and Reiki Master

Jess helps others reconnect with their bodies to support mental wellbeing. "I see wellness as the harmony between body, mind, and spirit". Facing challenges with anxiety and negative thought patterns, she has realised that a tense body makes it nearly impossible to calm a spiraling mind.

She views body care as the key to mental safety. "When your body feels safe and supported, your mind naturally finds space to rest and relax". By using energy flow and physical rest, she finds she can face challenges more easily as her mind naturally slows down.

Iris Bellve

Reiki Master and Yogic Guide

To Iris, wellness is "a feeling of home within myself". Her focus is on the awareness and equilibrium between the mind, body, and spirit, especially acknowledging the natural cycles and hormonal fluctuations women face. "The challenge is to trust these natural, feminine rhythms, instead of fighting against them."

Iris has found that "neglecting physical maintenance" leads directly to a loss of mental clarity and emotional resilience. She relies on a stack of physical supports—including acupuncture and proper sleep—to manage mood fluctuations. Her advice for the New Year? "Don't be afraid to try something new... the body holds on to so much that the mind can't always process".

Milly McMurdock

Metabolic and Mental Wellbeing Coach

Milly sees the New Year as an opportunity for "the art of living in harmony". She defines true wellness as "a deep sense of alignment between body, mind, and soul". For someone who faces the inner drive of self-pressure, she advocates for the power of softness.

Her approach to remembering to rest involves slowing down and tuning in to the body's innate wisdom to cultivate sustainable wellbeing. "Treat your body like the foundation of your mind," she encourages, "it's the most powerful tool you have for mental health".
