The bold new collection beauty junkies are obsessing over

Every once in a while, a beauty collection launches and leaves all others in its proverbial dust. Such a launch breaks boundaries in more ways than one, offering inspirational ways of using a previously undiscovered product, bringing new life to certain tools, and showing makeup aficionados how it’s done.

Fresh from the backstage of Fashion Week runways all over the world, M.A.C have teamed up with three adored makeup maestros including Kabuki to create colour collections that perfectly each artist’s signature style.

The New York native had his big break while modelling for Thierry Mugler, and caught the eye of Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field. What followed was a blossoming makeup artistry career, where his bold use of colour has been celebrated everywhere from fashion editorials to runway shows to celebrity music videos.

The Makeup Art Cosmetics collection is a playful celebration of colour – think deep berry and mid-tone stone grey matte liquid lipsticks, mother-of-pearl with pink and blue fleck glosses, poppy peach dual-tone powder blushes, luminous gold pearl highlighting powders, and electric hued paints to execute a dynamic winged cat eye. Whether you dare to go bold or play it safe, the collection speaks to both looks beautifully.

Remix met with Kabuki during his time in New Zealand to find out more about his collaboration with M.A.C, how to maximise your makeup and his time working with the late Michael Jackson. Check out the full interview in the March issue of Remix magazine, on sale March 22.
