Everything you need to know about Peach’s Hot Chicken’s collaboration with DoorDash
Born and raised in the heart of America’s South, Alex George of Peach’s Hot Chicken is no stranger to Nashville Hot Chicken. With his Grandmother’s fried chicken recipe in hand, Peach’s Hot Chicken quickly evolved from a humble food truck to a Panmure staple. And now, thanks to DoorDash, more and more of Auckland can indulge in Peach’s from their very own homes.
It’s been quite a few years since Peach’s food truck beginnings. When did you realise there was potential for something bigger?
My wife and I started off as a food truck eight years ago. We used to go around the night markets, looking at the different offerings that were available. We thought that Nashville Hot Chicken was underrepresented at that time, and being from Nashville (or just outside of), I felt like it was something that we could offer authentically and at a high level.
Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the Peach’s Hot Chicken menu?
At its core, we're all about comfort food. I feel like fried chicken is a super comfortable dish for a lot of people. It was very much a staple for us growing up. My grandmother used to make fried chicken quite a lot, but it was her biscuits that I have a close connection with. My grandmother would make them most mornings. She'd also make a gravy that we'd put on it, as well as a sausage – we've actually got that on the menu.
You know a place is good when they have a secret menu. What's on the Peach’s secret menu?
The secret menu was born out of our regulars coming in and asking for things a specific way. We've done it since the food truck days, so it kind of started there. One of the most requested items from back in those days was fried chicken on top of the macaroni and cheese.
What are the top three dishes you would recommend to someone who has never tried Peach’s Hot Chicken?
Chicken and Waffles, Chicken and Biscuit, and then our Pickled Pineapple Sweet Chilli Burger available now on DoorDash.
Why did you want to partner with DoorDash?
When DoorDash approached me, I had confidence in their ability to keep what was most important to me, which is quality. We have been in business for almost eight years now, and we’ve never done a delivery platform because I haven’t been confident that they could keep the quality high. DoorDash has been really helpful when strategising ways that we can keep the quality really high, whilst getting Peach’s Hot Chicken to more people easier. Also, DoorDash is everywhere in America. Nobody uses the ‘other guys.’
You have created a DoorDash exclusive dish to celebrate the collaboration. Can you tell us more about this?
Yes! The Pickled Pineapple, Sweet Chilli Burger! It's honestly delicious. It starts off with a lovely toasted bun. We put aioli on it, and then we've got some of our really good fried chicken which is glazed with the sweet chilli glaze that we make in-house. Then, we top it with pickled pineapple and pickled radish. It's really fresh and fun. And you know, who doesn't like pineapple on a fried chicken burger?
And so, what's next for Peach’s Hot Chicken?
I love Panmure. I'm so glad to be here, and I love the community. Launching this delivery programme with DoorDash means we can now get Peach’s to more of this area—Glen Innes, Panmure, Pakuranga. Ideally, all the decisions that we’ve made in the past have been leading to us getting Peach’s Hot Chicken to more places around Auckland city. I think after this, we would look to open up more Peach’s Hot Chicken locations across Auckland. Maybe even some outside Auckland.
Peach’s Hot Chicken is available now on the DoorDash app.
