How family memories laid the foundation for luxury jeweller Messika
For our latest issue, cover star Charli D’Amelio donned a selection of sparkling jewels by fine jewellery house Messika. These special pieces, from statement rings to show-stopping pavé pendants, are available exclusively at Partridge Jewellers. Here’s how Charli wore them.
It’s funny the vignettes that stay with us from our childhood. Perhaps it’s a particular toy, a meal, or a holiday that we hold onto in select images, memories suddenly sparked in adulthood. For Valérie Messika, founder of fine jewellery house Messika (exclusively retailed by Partridge Jewellers), the image that has stuck with her is one of her father Andre, a diamond dealer, sliding diamonds between his fingers, the brilliant jewels refracting and sparkling as they moved.

It is this memory that played on repeat as she launched Messika. Designed to bring diamonds into the everyday moments of our lives, rather than just those linked to eternal love, the maison designs pieces for the modern woman; pieces that will merge seamlessly with elegant wardrobes worn day in, day out.
‘I wanted to talk about diamonds in a totally different way,’ explains Valérie. ‘I found this universe magnificent, but I wanted to lighten it, to make it a little younger and more contemporary.’

The house launched in 2005, and two years later, her core memory of diamonds dancing between her father’s fingers was finally brought to life with the now instantly recognisable Move collection.
As much a technical feat as a visual one, the Move collection sees diamonds freed from their stationary shackles and, instead, placed carefully in an oval bracket which moves with you, the diamonds shifting and changing as you walk, type, dance or simply live.

Modernity has been a key pillar to the success of Messika. Free from the expectations of heritage, it has had the capacity to be nimble; catering to a modern audience at all levels of the maison, from store locations to key design and, crucially, celebrity partnerships. Campaigns have been fronted by household names like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Kate Moss, while Beyonce is a famed fan of the house, notably choosing to wear Messika’s Persian Drops set in the now-iconic Louvre scene from the Apeshit music video.

In just two decades, Messika has established itself as the new name to know in the luxury jewellery space. Through subverting tradition, the maison has given new meaning to the idea that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
