Karen Walker: Fantastique Magnifique

By Jessica Beresford Toy soldiers were the theme for Karen Walker’s latest showing at New York Fashion Week, with models marching down the runway with serious eye-covering bangs and tall soldier hats. Titled Fantastique Magnifique, the collection was exactly as its name suggested - sophisticated Parisian chic in extravagant gold fabric, prim-and-proper peter pan collars and high necklines with fitted bowed-waists. A sixties mod vibe was still present from Walker’s last few collections, although the latest also leaned into the seventies with roll-necks and wide-legged pants. An exaggerated white on pastel polka dot was the standout print, as well as an intergalactic planet pattern for that added quirk. And the hugely successful shoe collaboration with Beau Coops again featured, with covetable penny loafers and heels with an emphasis on pointy toes. We can’t wait to get our hands on a pair of these!
