Relive Commercial Bay’s Solstice celebrations
Longer days, later nights and the glow of the season ahead: it's safe to say the city is officially out of hibernation. Last week, Commercial Bay marked the changing season with Solstice–four days of fashion, music and good vibes that kicked off the countdown to summer.
The centrepiece was two free open-air runway shows, which took over the precinct on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday evening kicked off with cocktails and canapés at Little Queen Laneway, where New Zealand creatives, tastemakers and industry insiders gathered before taking their seats. Levels One and Two offered shoppers and passers-by a prime view from above, transforming the space into a full-blown fashion spectacle.
Styled by local creative Sammy Salsa and soundtracked live by legendary DJ P Money, the runway starred a considered mix of spring looks from across the Commercial Bay line-up, with Zambesi, Juliette Hogan, Oroton, Coach, Sylvester, Moochi and Superette among the labels featured.
Sharp tailoring and polished occasionwear were given a playful twist with bold prints, unexpected pairings and statement accessories, proving the precinct's style range is as wide as it is wearable.
Beyond the runway, the party spilled through Commercial Bay, with stores, restaurants and bars all getting in on the action. New-season arrivals and exclusive offers made a little retail therapy hard to resist, while food and drink specials, and live entertainment gave everyone a reason to linger. The returning Solstice claw machine added another playful touch: spend $150 or more at participating retailers and you could try your luck at winning a $5,000 Commercial Bay spending spree.
If Solstice is anything to go by, we're in for one very good season.
