Everything you need to know about Meta’s new viral app, Threads

Who knew this would be such a big week for the social media girlies! We shouldn’t really be surprised, the devil works hard but Mark Zuckerberg works harder. As he continues to compete with Elon Musk it was only natural his next step would be to tackle Twitter, cue Threads.

So, what actually is Threads?

It’s a text-based conversation app that lets users compose and share messages in real time. Like Twitter, you can engage with posts by liking, replying or resharing. The difference is that it connects to your Instagram profile. You can simply sync your accounts and you're ready to go, it’ll carry across your followers, bio, profile photo and data. Instagram describes it as “a new, separate space for updates and public conversations” which essentially means it’s Twitter but easier to use and much faster to set up.

Should you be using Threads?

If you’re a content creator, influencer or someone who monetises your Instagram following it’s probably worth signing up. The future of Twitter looks pretty bleak so if you’re a fan of the platform, you’ll likely love Threads and it feels like it’ll be around for a while. If Threads can continue to recreate the original attractions of Twitter, its viral status is set to live on.

Are there cons?

The only con we can find so far is that it can’t really be deleted, you can deactivate your profile any time but to delete it you’ll have to delete your Instagram account….yikes!

What performs well on Threads?

So far, it seems to be much less curated. Humour and memes appear to be doing the best, chaotic live posts poking fun at relatable content and current events. Fashion is also engaging highly, we expect to see most of our favourite designers and fashion houses share collections and behind-the-scenes real-time content of shows and photoshoots, viral accounts like @ideservecouture are thriving so it’s worth taking note of their movements.

If this piqued your interest and you’re yet to have a proper look, download Threads and scope it out, while you're at it, give @remixmagazine a follow
