How first-time fiancés Jane Joo and Callan are celebrating Valentine’s Day

For university sweethearts Jane and Callan, Valentine’s Day hits a little differently this year. After sharing their engineering love story engagement on Instagram (and stealing our hearts in the process), we couldn’t help but think — if anyone has love figured out, it’s them.

1. We absolutely adored your announcement post! Did you have any inkling that Callan was going to propose? 

We actually have each other's locations on our phones. I thought I was going to a winery with my family and saw that he was at home (he had actually left his phone at his house). My sister offered to do my makeup, which was definitely out of the ordinary, so there were moments of suspicion, but in my head, I was like "there is no way." It was perfectly executed.

2. This will be your first Valentine's Day together as fiancés. What do you and Callan have planned for this extra special Valentine's Day? 

We love doing arts and crafts together, so this year we are planning a paint & sip and attempting to paint each other.

3. Without giving away any spoilers, are there any present ideas you have in mind for Callan, and is there anything on your wishlist? 

We usually like to do something sentimental or handmade for Valentine's Day. He is building me an indoor air quality monitor, so I think it's going to be pretty hard to top that!

4. What is your ultimate rom-com to watch on Valentine's Day?

Our most watched rom com is Bride Wars—a classic! 

5. For our budget-savvy lovers, what are your tips for planning the perfect Valentine's Day?

Get creative! My favourite low-cost activities are: puzzles, hiking, baking and games’ nights. 

6. What's currently on your wedding day Pinterest board?

There's a lot of wedding dress inspiration. I do love a drop \waist, classic, vintage-inspired gown...something that feels very romantic.
