Inside Whispering Angel’s Coronet Peak takeover
If you missed out on Euro summer this year, Whispering Angel is offering a consolation prize. The beloved rosé label is bringing a taste of European glamour to Coronet Peak this winter, once again transforming Heidi’s Hut into New Zealand’s home of après-ski.
Made in the heart of Provence at Château d'Esclans, Whispering Angel has become one of the world's most renowned rosé labels, poured everywhere from the beaches of the French Riviera to the terraces of Europe's most iconic ski resorts. Its return to Heidi's Hut channels that same European alpine spirit into one of New Zealand's most breathtaking mountain settings.
Settled between the Southern Alps, Heidi's Hut remains Queenstown's only mountain chalet dining experience, known for its spectacular views and its equally celebrated menu. For the rest of the 2026 snow season, Whispering Angel has taken over the venue entirely, bringing a slice of Europe's ski culture to the slopes of Coronet Peak.
As part of the takeover, Whispering Angel and Heidi's Hut are reviving Angel Hour across three Saturdays this winter, giving skiers and visitors alike a reason to linger after a day on the mountain. Running from 12 pm–3 pm on Saturday, 22 August, Saturday, 29 August, and Saturday, 5 September, the event features glasses of Provence rosé, alpine dining, live DJ sets, and an undeniably après-ski atmosphere, perfectly encapsulating the lively social tradition that's long defined the European alpine experience.
Throughout the season, Whispering Angel will also be available to enjoy by the glass or bottle, alongside Heidi's Hut's signature alpine menu. The venue's exclusive Fondue for Two dish, served with two glasses of Whispering Angel, is also on offer for $85, all day, every day, throughout winter.
Lisa Mackenzie, General Manager at Moët Hennessy New Zealand, reveals bringing Whispering Angel back to Heidi's Hut for another year felt like a natural decision: "Whispering Angel has long been associated with some of the world's most iconic alpine destinations." Mackenzie adds that the goal is for guests to feel the same vibrant après-ski culture found at Europe's leading resorts, paired with excellent food, wine, and mountain views.
Molly Neeve, General Manager of Food & Beverage at NZSki, echoes the sentiment. With Angel Hour back on the calendar, Neeve says it's now "the closest thing you'll find to a true European après ski experience in New Zealand."
Whether you're dropping in after a morning on the slopes or making Heidi's Hut the destination in itself, this winter offers a rare chance to experience the relaxed energy of European après-ski, without ever leaving New Zealand.
