Local creator Tima Savea showcases the vision—and products—that went into building her dream home with Samsung
If home is where the heart is, then Tima Savea’s new address is one brimming with love. It’s a home the creator shares with her husband, rugby star Julian Savea, and their three children. A home that is on one hand, beautiful and peaceful and a very chic aesthetic, while still being a space that feels lived in, one where children can grow and play. Early on in the build process, the Savea’s employed Samsung’s Midas touch, with the end goal of building a home that was easy, intuitive, and brought them together as a family. And now that they’ve spent some months falling even more in love with the place, we caught up with Tima to learn more about her home, and how she integrated her suite of appliances within it.

Your home feels warm, personal and very you. When it comes to appliances, do you think about them as part of the design story now, rather than just practical necessities?
Absolutely. I see the appliances as part of the home’s design now. When appliances are thoughtfully designed and sit seamlessly within the space, they contribute to the overall feeling of the home rather than distracting from it—and the Samsung appliances I have in my space really reflect that. Practicality still matters, but it doesn’t need to be visually separate anymore which is a bonus.
Family life comes with a constant stream of washing, cleaning and organising. What’s changed for you since having appliances that quietly adapt to your routine instead of demanding your attention?
Life feels a lot more calm. With family life, there’s always something happening, so having appliances that work quietly in the background has made a big difference. They fit into our daily routine instead of interrupting it, which has taken a lot of the pressure off daily routines.

Movie nights seem to be a big part of how you all unwind together. How does having a proper big-screen set-up shift the energy of being at home—does it make those moments feel more intentional?
It makes those moments feel intentional. With both Julian and I working full time, having three kids and busy lives, movie nights have become something we genuinely look forward to. It’s a chance to slow down, switch off and spend time together. The OLED 4K display on our 83-inch Samsung Smart AI TV makes everything look rich and immersive. And having all our streaming in one place through the Smart Hub just makes those nights easy and enjoyable.
The Samsung Bespoke AI range allows you to choose colours and finishes that suit your space. Was that level of choice important to you, and how does it affect the way your home feels on a daily basis?
Yes absolutely! Being able to choose colours and finishes that suit our space means everything feels cohesive and considered. The appliances don’t stand out, but more belong in our space and that creates a cohesive flow throughout the home that you feel every day. Choosing the exact Resene colour online was so easy—a few clicks and it’s delivered exactly how you want it.

With SmartThings connecting everything behind the scenes, does smart tech feel like something that gives you more time back, or does it simply take away a layer of mental load you didn’t realise you were carrying?
It’s less about gaining time and more about losing the guesswork. When things are connected and running smoothly, you don’t have to think about them. That frees you up to be more present and enjoy your home the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.
