We Can't Get Enough Of... Burberry's Sustainable Collection and Adopting a Pet in Need

We’re back with another weekly wrap-up. From sustainable fashion to adopting pets in need, and the announcement of Dior's new Makeup Ambassador - this is what has been on the Remix team's minds this week.

Where fashion meets responsibility and circularity

The recent launch of Burberry Classics is a curation of wardrobe foundations reimagined with a unique Burberry slant. Essential styles, including jersey, tailoring and versatile layers, are elevated by signature house codes. The main material of the clothing contains at least 70 per cent organic or 50 per cent recycled materials. The first drop of Burberry Classics falls under the latest phase of the ReBurberry programme – a collective of initiatives demonstrating Burberry’s commitment to responsibility and circularity. With the fashion industry contributing to a massive amount of global waste we love brands like Burberry who have sustainability at the forefront of its ethos. Kudos.

Give pets in need a second chance

This March, the Petstock Foundation is encouraging Kiwis to support National Pet Adoption Month, an initiative that helps find loving homes for pets in need. Every year, thousands of pets enter the rescue cycle through no fault of their own. Recognising this urgent need, the Petstock Foundation’s National Pet Adoption Month encourages people to open their hearts to a pet in need, along with the return of its Adoption Weekend, taking place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March. During Adoption Weekend, select Petstock stores across the country will be hosting in-store adoption drives, making it simple for New Zealanders to make a long-term, positive change to a pet in need, and to themselves. Pets can relieve the effects of anxiety, loneliness, and disadvantage. They can provide friendship, support, and inspiration, or simply make us smile when we need it most. But it's not just cats and dogs in need of loving homes. Why not explore the possibility of adopting or fostering a different kind of animal, such as rabbits, guinea pigs, or birds? Thinking of adding a pet to the family? Now is your chance.

Dior announces their new Makeup Ambassador

Born in 2000, Willow Smith is an artist who began her music career at a young age, just before her tenth birthday, with her first single, Whip My Hair. As a singer, author, actor and host, 23-year-old Willow is a committed artist of many talents. She is one of the most visionary and daring young women of her generation, of which she is most definitely a major icon and a true homage to the Dior woman.

Everyone is talking about the Balenciaga show…

No stranger to, well, strange - Balenciaga has redefined luxury once again with their Winter 24 collection. Taking place at the historic Les Invalides in Paris, under a set of screens, the show spoke through a narrative timeline from morning to night over natural and electronic landscapes. With depictions juxtaposing the actual to the artificial. Editing, splicing, content sharing and scrolling were playing across each of the monitors. The collection mirrored the theme with models walking down the runway wearing fur coats, oversized suits and tracksuits, and draping garments with metal embellishments. And in true Balenci-style accessorised with futuristic wrap-around eye mask, over-the-face beanies, cellphone bracelets, oversized handbags, and ‘eBay’ branded clothing.

“I like to question things that matter to me through my work, and some of the questions I have been thinking about recently are: What is luxury? What is fashion and why does it even matter? Who do I do what I do for? Is fashion enough? In a world oversaturated by content, is anything ever enough? What is enough? The important part is not necessarily finding answers, but the process of questioning in itself. Luxury is by definition a sort of scarcity, something that is not infinitely available. What seems to be truly rare and finite right now is, actually, creativity itself. I believe that creativity has secretly become a new form of luxury.” - Demna, Creative Director of Balenciaga.
