The 7 things you shouldn't do in 2017

Being a 'yes person' is great, up until it isn't. Saying no or standing up for what you truly believe in can be scary at first, but it has a major pay off in the long run. Team Remix have put their heads together to impart some wisdom around all the things you should (and shouldn’t) do to be the most kick-ass person you can be this year.

1. Don’t feel obligated to do things you don’t want to do
Say it with me everyone, ‘No.’ You don’t have to do things just because somebody has asked you. Stay in control of your own life and do what you want to do.

2. Don’t remain friends with people just because
Once again, you are under no obligation here. You don’t have to stay friends with someone even though you have been friends for ages, nor do you have to stay friends with someone when they don’t treat you well. It may be difficult and you may feel guilty, but sometimes you just need to let that shit go!

3. Never compromise who you are
This is the most important thing that we all need reminding of from time to time. Never (and I mean never!) change what you stand for. Whether it be work, money, your friends, always remember who you are. If you find yourself doing something you don’t agree with or acting in a way you don’t like, take a step back and reassess your situation.

4. Don’t wait for someone else to say you’re good enough
You are good enough! The only way you will reach your goals is if you dive straight in. Don’t wait for someone to say, ‘Wow, you’re the most brilliant writer I’ve ever met, you’re practically Shakespeare,’ before you write that book. Just do it already! You are the only one holding you back, and you don’t need anyone else to define your own self-worth.

5. Stop deciding to do things only when you reach a certain goal
Timing for anything will never be perfect. You can do your best to achieve your financial goals or finish that project, but more often than not you are only creating excuses for yourself because you are afraid. Prioritise, and do that thing you’ve always been meaning to. Learn guitar, start that business. The time is now!

6. Never let money rule your decisions
Keep your head on the ground and don’t let those green-tinted glasses rule your decisions or bar you from your goals. As they say, money can’t buy happiness.

7. Don’t put yourself down
Stop telling yourself you’re fat or you’re bad at your job or you’ll never finish that project in time. Positive thinking really works. If you say you can do something, you will! Plus, give yourself a compliment every now and then. (Don’t lie, you know you look damn fine in that black dress).
