What to do, where to shop, and what to eat in Newmarket

In lieu of an overseas trip, why not explore the bounty of what our city has to offer? An unbeatable coffee culture, a dynamic shopping scene, and collective boundary-pushing restaurants and bars - Newmarket truly is the purveyor of all things new and exciting.

Chic industrial designed interiors, widescreen views, confident and unique eateries; from every angle, Newmarket’s Westfield is well-considered and well-executed.  The arrival of this new addition has undoubtedly, reinvigorated the city’s shopping experience, but it needn’t be a one-stop-shop and there’s plenty to be discovered further afield. Here are a few of Remix’s favourite haunts…

EAT

Nonna

Every good shopper needs sustenance to go the distance, so it’s only natural that this gives way to a fresh crop of eateries dishing up some of the cities best. Amongst them is Nonna, an Italian eatery famed for its homemade pasta, but also a silent-achiever in the breakfast realm. You’ll find steadfast classics like salmon and avocado smash amongst more adventurous offerings such as ‘Eggs in Purgatory’ which sees a cassoulet of beans served with Italian sausage, goats cheese and olive oil.

Tasca

Even though this Nuffield Street stalwart is a standout, you’d be forgiven for walking straight past its unassuming entrance, but this all adds to it’s intimate, personal feeling. Tasca showcases the versatility of Spanish Tapas with contemporary flair.

White + Wong's

The menu at White + Wong’s is fresh and exciting. Delivering bright, bold pan-Asian cuisine, every time it’s an experience to dine here. Punchy flavours permeate dishes such as the Bang Bang Chicken and don’t miss a dessert of coconut tapioca pudding, proving their intrepid approach doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to detail.

INCA

Nic Watt’s INCA is bringing a slice of authentic Peruvian cuisine to Newmarket’s rooftop terrace. There is a lot to love about this menu, but if you’re after the star dish, there really is no need to read on past the ‘ceviche’ and
‘tiradito’ section. Refreshing and acidic and heaped with onion and chilli, it’s a flavour sensation.

Well wonder no more, because now you can at Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq - Newmarket’s nostalgia-inducing arcade-themed bar. It doesn’t matter if you’re four or thirty-four, arcade games will always have a special place in our hearts, primarily because it reminds us of simpler times when mum paid for everything, and because they’re just a bloody good time.
