Lord Kitchener | Sandringham

The British-inspired Sandringham gastropub—Lord Kitchener—has been home to a legendary Sunday roast for years. Choose from roast beef or pork belly, and dig into the seasonal veggies, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy. If you're lucky, you might catch a roast chicken or lamb special (watch their socials for details). Big fan of Yorkshire pudding? Call up ahead of time and preorder a plate-sized one!

Via Galbraith’s Alehouse

Galbraith’s Alehouse | Eden Terrace

An inner-city staple for lovers of all things ale, Galbraith's Alehouse is renowned for one of Auckland's best Sunday roasts—for under $30! With sirloin of beef and all the trimmings, it's the perfect spot for a truly classic, comforting roast, with endless local beer (and gin) options to top it off. Bookings are required, so get in before you miss out.

Via The Bridgman

The Bridgman | Mount Eden

If you're searching for a refined roast, head to the corner of Dominion and Valley Road. The Bridgman's Sunday roast isn't limited to lunch—go for round two at dinnertime! The slow-cooked meats rotate between lamb shoulder, pork belly and beef rump, but honestly, we're happy with any of the above. Skipping the meat? Try their nut roast, which is sure to satisfy just as much. Complete with all the trimmings—potatoes mashed, not roasted—you won't leave hungry, especially not if you upgrade your meal to three courses!

The Pantry at Park Hyatt | Auckland Central

You might know The Pantry as your spot for a morning fix, but come Sunday evening, they deliver in equal measure. Their Sunday roast is filled with all the classic trimmings, with alternating meats like roast beef, pork belly, and chicken on the roast roster. Time your booking strategically, and pair your roast with the happy hour (4-6 pm)—$10 wines and $15 jugs of tap beer to enjoy the last of your weekend with.

Bivacco | Auckland Central

For those who enjoy a bit of everything, head to Bivacco's Sunday Feast—a lavish buffet-style spread of unlimited classic winter dishes. For the carnivores, there's no shortage of choice; prime beef rib roast, crispy pork belly, and whole roasted salmon fillets are all on offer. Don't fret, the Feast also has endless Yorkshire puddings. In typical Bivacco fashion, there are indulgent pastas like Baked Lobster Mac n Cheese or the classic pipe rigate vodka alla pomodoro, scooped right out of a wheel of parmesan. Finish off with a station full of Bivacco's best sweet treats, with cheesecakes, trifles, cookies, and tiramisu.

Northcote Tavern | Northcote Point

For those north of the Harbour Bridge, the Northcote Tavern easily ticks the box for a fantastic Sunday roast. The heritage bistro and beer garden has become one of the most popular spots to tuck into a comforting Sunday roast, and it's easy to see why. For under $30, a generous portion of tender, roast beef, roast potatoes and veggies, Yorkshire pudding, and housemade gravy await. The historic site has some of the best views of the harbourside bridge and a lovely outdoor space—enjoy the crisp winter air if you're lucky to dodge the rain!

The Fox, A London Pub | Auckland Central

If you hadn't already guessed, The Fox, A London Pub, is a comforting homage to all things England, specialising in showcasing sports and famous English pub grub. Come Sunday, the Viaduct pub presents its Sunday roast. Designed with two people in mind, share a selection of starters, which include classic British dishes, such as the famous pig in blankets. For the main event, select from one of the two roasts of the day (think free-range chicken with sage and English cheddar stuffing to whole pork knuckle with crispy crackling and apple sauce), and dig into Yorkshire pudding, dripping-roasted potatoes, seasonal roast veg and gravy.

Danny Doolans | Auckland Central

You may be amongst the many who have likely never stepped foot into Danny Doolans in the daylight; however, their Sunday Roast is more than enough reason to. Shake off the Saturday night scaries with a comforting plate of Yorkshire pudding (that, in Danny's words, is bigger than your head), roast meat of the week, seasonal veggies, and plenty of gravy to mop your Yorkie up with.

Grey Lynn Firehouse | Grey Lynn

Grey Lynn Firehouse is becoming the talk of the neighbourhood with their new, hāngī-inspired Sunday roast. Incorporating Chef Kererū Wilson’s Māori upbringing, the dish features indulgent slow-cooked lamb which incorporates the rich, savoury, smoky tones of traditional hāngī. Complemented with red wine gravy, mānuka smoked potatoes, cabbage, rainbow carrots, and charred green beans, this is a welcome take on tradition.

Via Morningside Tavern

Morningside Tavern | Sandringham

If you’re looking for a traditional roast, Morningside Tavern has you covered. Located just a stone’s throw from Kingsland, with an outdoor courtyard that’s perfect for warmer days and an expansive, open-plan layout inside, it’s the perfect place to gather friends and family for a Sunday roast. Their roast rotates weekly between pork, lamb, and beef, and each choice is served with duck fat potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a loaded yorkshire pudding, and of course, gravy. It’s also worth noting that there are 20—yes, 20—beers on tap, so you can enjoy the last of your weekend in style.

If you’re on the hunt for a Sunday roast with a view,  Takapuna Surf Club is the place to be. Perched above Takapuna beach, with stellar views of Rangitoto Island and the wider Hauraki Gulf, the popular beachside spot has given us even more reason to pay them a visit, with the launch of TSC Rituals: a weekly programme of events, including $30 Sunday roasts.  From 3 pm, tuck into your choice of two meats, potatoes, veggies, and a Yorkshire pudding, and believe us when we say, this is one of the most generous helpings of Sunday roasts we’ve seen so far.
