How to style the UNEEK Mary Jane by KEEN
For years, UNEEK by KEEN has quietly been a favourite within fashion’s more utilitarian circles. Most recently, it cemented its place at the heart of the #gorpcore movement, from Tokyo’s street-style scene to the pavements of New Zealand. Best known for its technical sandals and sneakers and its two-cord design hallmark—often spotted on those in the know—UNEEK by KEEN’s signature combination of fashion and functionality has made its designs instant sellouts.
The UNEEK Mary Jane is the brand’s latest offering and arguably its most style-forward yet. Drawing on the heritage of the Mary Jane silhouette, the new design is defined by elevated buckle details in two sleek colourways (Black/Black and Silver/Black), while the Gold/Star White version features a closed-toe design and tassel fastening. Of course, each pair features KEEN’s iconic woven structure, a subtle platform lift, and all-important, foot-hugging comfort.
To mark the arrival of UNEEK Mary Jane in Aotearoa and to celebrate its versatility, I styled all three variations through a winter-ready, Martha-coded lens.
How to style double denim
For me, nothing screams ‘put together’ quite like a double denim outfit, especially in a rich, indigo hue and clean cut. I’ve paired my favourite Canadian tuxedo with the Black/Black UNEEK Mary Janes by KEEN to stay cohesive in darker shade territory. By matching my handbag and sunglasses with my shoes, the look feels balanced and intentional—perfect for day plans that merge unapologetically into nighttime endeavours!
Styling silver shoes
Metallic shoes are certainly having their moment, but if you’re not ready to dive feet-first into the trend, do so by opting for the UNEEK Mary Jane in Silver/Black. Similar to their all-black counterpart that you met earlier, this variation features a splash of silver across the footbed and also showcases the signature Mary Jane buckle synonymous with the silhouette. I’ve chosen to pair my Mary Janes with other grey tones to create a cohesive, monochrome outfit, letting the silver shine through. 
Styling sandals for winter
Unlike the other two UNEEK Mary Jane styles, the Gold/Star White variation opts for a close-toe design, accented with a tassel and finished with KEEN’s signature woven structure. With comfort well and truly catered for, I’ve gone down the cosy route with a pair of silk pants and mohair knit to introduce interest through texture, just like the UNEEK Mary Janes.
