Auckland’s newest hotel's beauty lies in its details
Auckland is a seriously cool city, with a seriously lacking hotel scene. So, when we hear that international luxury hotel brand SO/ are set to open their first hotel in Auckland, we pay attention. Not only that, the boutique hotel brand, which has an artistic portfolio of only seven hotels worldwide, has named WORLD as their design partner.
The iconic Kiwi fashion brand, who are synonymous with pushing the boundaries with loud, yet timeless prints are showcasing that same artistic flare with Auckland’s newest hotel interiors. The hotel is sophisticated in a way that works perfectly with our forever evolving city. Occupying the historic former Reserve Bank, SO/ Auckland is on track to becoming a popular destination with locals and tourists alike.
“The arrival of SO/ brings a new level of design audacity and boldness to the Auckland hotel scene,” said SO/Auckland General Manager Stephen Gould. “The decision to launch SO/ in Auckland comes at a time when tourism in New Zealand is booming and reinforces that this stunning natural beauty is also a bustling metropolis and the must-visit destination of the South Pacific,” he said.
Each hotel in the boutique chain has an artistic vision that is brought to life with the help of some of the most celebrated names in the world of fashion and design. Past ventures have seen Mr Kenzo conceputualise Takada; the creation of Bangkok’s stunning hotel with the help of Mousier Christian Lacroix; and renowned duo Viktor&Rolf casting their creative hand in Berlin. WORLD is a highly coveted New Zealand brand, making it the perfect choice for this exciting new development.
In a city which already has an incredible food scene, the on-site restaurant may be the true test. SO/ will be offering a taste of French inspiration at their restaurant Harbour Society, helmed by French chef Mar de Passorio, former owner of Michelen-starred restaurant L’Esprit de la Violette.
Inspired by its surroundings, the 130-room is going to be emblematic of the new energy in this great city of ours.
SO/ Auckland will open on 19th November 2018
