Welcome to The Little Louises, the perfect place to unwind on the wild West Coast of Auckland
Just an hour from Auckland’s chaotic city streets, Piha’s wild black sand coastline feels like another world entirely. Here, tucked high in the hills above the beach, The Louises of Piha is redefining the art of a staycation—inviting guests to slow down, reconnect, and immerse themselves in the raw beauty of the West Coast.
Evolving from a classic Kiwi bach in the 70s, the property was a cherished family retreat for years before undergoing an incredible architect-led transformation through the early 2000s, and finally, completing its journey in 2024 to become The Louises. A mid-century-modern home that honours its roots, but with an elevated luxury feel, infused with convenient modern tech and the simple pleasures of coastal living. The transformation was most recently brought to life by current owners, Jenene and Scottie, who called the small village of Piha home and a way to connect with their wairua (living spirit).
While the main house remains a private residence, it may be made available upon enquiry. The retreat, The Little Louise’s, is now open for bookings for those seeking their own journey of connection. The private, one-bedroom, adults-only hideaway on the main property folds into its staggering natural surroundings. Panoramic glass frames picturesque views of Piha and the iconic Lion Rock, while minimalist interiors and warm, organic textures offer a kind of calm that lingers from check-in. Outside, the experience is similarly wonderful.
An outdoor spa pool offers front-row seats to spectacular sunsets, while an open-air shower tucked among native greenery invites you to slow down and savour the simple rituals of daily life. Here, mornings begin with coffee on the deck as the waves roll in below, and evenings end in the glow of a West Coast sunset that feels almost like a private viewing just for you.
Despite its seclusion, The Louise’s is only a few minutes from Piha’s village cafés and coastal walking tracks that snake into the Waitākere Ranges. Whether you’re chasing the perfect surf break or wandering barefoot along the beach with your person, this pocket of rugged paradise has a way of reminding you that nature is indeed the ultimate luxury.
